A sustainably driven refurbishment and extension of an existing commercial HQ for a public sector client, incorporating a landscaped public realm & parking facilities.
Sustainably driven refurbishment and extension of an existing commercial HQ for a public sector client, incorporating a landscaped public realm & parking facilities.
A fabric first strategy, utilising a semi-permeable facade to reduce the heat load of the building, supplemented by renewables and low energy appliances, driving the development towards net zero and passive building standards to maximise on site carbon reduction.
One of the key objectives for the new proposal was to improve on the existing parking provision on site given the number of staff that needs to be accounted for. The removal of the unoccupied Police building currently on site that has become unfit for purpose opens up the possibility to offer a landscape lead parking area for the existing and new staff members. This is a safer and more secure proposal than the existing to minimise pedestrian footpaths cross access roads that currently is not considered.

A new two storey extension connected to the existing SEROC building will provide additional accommodation for both existing ROC staff as well as the newly relocated Traffic Officer Operations Team.
A more efficient internal layout to the existing building and the new extension. Cross pollination between the National Highways’ teams was a focus when designing the layouts to give a single, large kitchen and breakout area for the building to all use. This encourages cross team collaboration within the ROC staff as well as the Traffic Officers. A new open plan office accommodation will also provide more flexibility whilst working and collaborating amongst other teams. Welfare was also a priority with a new first aid room, welfare and faith room and shower facilities.
