In order to accommodate the existing level change across the site, the scheme is arranged in a split level configuration, with the retail facing onto the street with the residential units dropping down towards the rear of the site, providing direct connections onto the landscape setting.
The material palette and form of the design have been informed by the existing industrial context. The pitched roofscape is a key feature of the scheme which references the contrast between large scale massing with flat roofs and small scale housing with pitched roofs and dormer gables that is present along Vicarage Rd.
